Path to Music

Hayley Richards was born and raised in South Windsor, Connecticut. Ever since she was old enough to join her church’s children’s choir, music has been a focal part of her life.  She plays flute, bassoon, guitar, and piano and participated in show choir, chorus, and band ensembles throughout middle school and high school. A Music major, Hayley transferred to Wagner College in 2014 and studied music theory with Matthew Hough and Heather Laurel; and film scoring with Dr. Roger Wesby. Hayley’s most significant training in composition and musicianship has been with Barbara Wesby. Hayley has been writing songs for voice and guitar since she was fourteen. She completed her first work for solo piano in Spring 2016 and since then has composed a song for tenor voice and piano as well as a piece for cello and piano, a piano duet, and multiple arrangements of popular songs. Hayley plans to continue her studies of composition and film scoring and hopes that this will lead to a career in scoring for TV and film.
